Preparing for travel vaccinations

28 May 2026·5 min read

What to do six weeks before you fly

Travel vaccines are easy to overlook until two weeks before take-off. By then, it's often too late for the courses that need multiple doses. Here's how to get ahead.

A simple six-week plan

  1. 1

    Six weeks out

Book a travel health consultation. Bring your itinerary and a list of medicines you currently take.

  2. 2

    Four weeks out

Receive most one-off vaccines and start any multi-dose courses.

  3. 3

    Two weeks out

Pick up antimalarials if you need them and your travel summary.

  4. 4

    On the day

Pack copies of your travel records, many border officials still ask for paper.

Vaccines most UK travellers need

  • Hepatitis A, anywhere with variable food and water standards
  • Typhoid, much of Asia, Africa and South America
  • Tetanus, diphtheria & polio, refresher every 10 years
  • Yellow fever, required for entry to many tropical countries
  • Cholera, for high-risk areas or aid workers

Don't forget antimalarials

Some destinations need malaria tablets started before you fly and continued after you return.

We'll give you a destination-specific recommendation and dispense everything on the same day.
